  • Description

As America's moon voyagers hurtled back towards earth in the final stages of their round trip to the moon on Monday (February 8), they turned their instrument-packed cabin in the sky into an invaluable research laboratory. Down on earth scientists peered at their television screens as high definition pictures of the spacemen carrying out experiments were beamed back to them. The aim of Alan Shepard, Stuart Roosa and Edgar Mitchell aboard Apollo 14 was to conduct a series of experiments in the weightlessness of space to see if manufacturing processes now used on earth could be improved in conditions of zero gravity.

The accompanying film includes a sound track of the conversations between the astronauts and Houston Space Flight Control Centre.
