    Five South African, three all-Africa and three all comers records were broken in South Africa's first international multiracial athletics meeting which ended in Cape Town on Saturday (November 27).

    Foreign athletes won 11 of the 28 events. The British contingent of five athletes achieved four victories, while competitors from Austria, Belgium, Canada, Finland, Greece, Madagascar and West Germany each provided one winner.

    SYNOPSIS: Five South African, three all-Africa and three all-comers records were broken in South Africa's first international multi-racial athletics meeting which ended in Cape Town on Saturday.

    South Africa's Minister of Sport, Mr. Frank Waring, watched some of the events, including this heat of the men's 800 metres which was won by South Africa's D. Mogoregi.

    Foreign athletes won eleven of the twenty-eight events, including the men's 100 metres which was won by Madagascar's "flash" Jean-Louis Ravelomanantsoa.

    South Africa last experienced Olympic competition eleven years ago and for the past few years South Africa has been banned from making representative tours abroad.

    For these games a total of nineteen foreign countries sent teams of athletes to Cape Town.

    C. Tourret of France competes in the Triple Jump. He came third.

    Canada's champion woman high jumper Debbie Brill came third.

    Belgian Gaston Roelants won the men's five thousand metres in the time of 13 minutes, 57.4 seconds. South Africans, G. Bacon and G. Muldner were second and third.
