The three Israeli pilots, returned the other day by the Syrians after 5 and 3 years in a prisoner-of-war jail, and their families, were received in an informal meeting by President and Mrs. Katzir at their official residence this afternoon. Present at the little ceremony were PM Meir and Def, Min. Dayan as well as General Elazar, the Chief of Staff and General Peled, OC Airforce. Mrs. Meir addressed the gathering, welcoming the pilots in her own name, the name of the Govt. and all the people of Israel and said that maybe, that knowledge that all and everyone in Israel is really personally concerned with the fate of the POWs; she also expressed the hope that maybe, one day, the Egyptians too will return to us our POWs from there. We have always offered no mean deal:- 1:20 or 1:30 and even 1:50 but for us it is important to get our sons home. And there is no reason whatsoever for the Srab countries to hold our prisoners. Next Mrs. Katzir gave each of the pilots a silk-print by the Israeli artist David Shafrir before Naomi Shemer, the Israeli poetress, presented the pilots with one of her books.
