    BRITAIN'S 1966 GENERAL ELECTION CAMPAIGN IS OVER - AND MR. WILSON, LEADER OF THE VICTORIOUS LABOUR PARTY HAS RETURNED TO THE PRIME MINISTER'S RESIDENCE AT NO. 10, DOWNING STREET. A LARGE CROWD GATHERED IN DOWNING STREET TO GREET MR. WILSON AS HE ARRIVE FROM HIS LIVERPOOL CONSTITUENCY OF HUYTON. ON THE STEPS OF NO. 10 HE SPOKE ABOUT THE ELECTION RESULT. THE ELECTION WAS ALSO DISCUSSED BY THE LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION CONSERVATIVE PARTY, MR. EDWARD HEATH AT A NEWS CONFERENCE IN LONDON.

    MR WILSON FACES A HECTIC FEW WEEKS. BEFORE MAY 4 HIS CHANCELLOR MUST PRODUCE A BUDGET - AND EVEN BEFORE THAT THE QUEEN'S SPEECH FROM THE THRONE MUST BE DRAFTED. THIS ITSELF IS A COMPLEX DOCUMENT IN WHICH IS SET OUT THE AIMS AND ASPIRATIONS OF THE GOVERNMENT FOR THE NEXT SESSION.

    MR WILSON, WHO WON HIS SEAT IN HUYTON WITH A HUGE MAJORITY, CAME TO LONDON IN THE MORNING. HE TOLD THE CROWD IN DOWNING STREET:
    MR HEATH, LEADER OF THE CONSERVATIVE PARTY, WHICH SUFFERED HEAVY LOSSES IN THE ELECTION ALSO SPOKE IN LONDON:
    ELECTION RESULTS CONTINUED TO FLOW IN THROUGH THE DAY - AND IT BECAME RAPIDLY CLEAR THAT THE LABOUR PARTY HAD INFLICTED THE HEAVIEST ELECTION DEFEAT ON THE CONSERVATIVE PARTY SINCE 1945. THE PARTY IS ASSURED OF A MAJORITY OF BETWEEN 90 AND 100 SEATS IN THE NEW HOUSE OF COMMONS.
