    Background: President Idi Amin on Friday (24 Nov) officially opened the first civilian flying school in East Africa, at Soroti air base, 230 miles east of Kampala.

    The school is jointly owned by the three partner states in the East African Community -- Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. It has been operating for almost a year and was established largely with funds form the United Nations.
