Background: According to an ancient custom, the women of the Greek city of Monokklissia take complete control for one day in January every year. This year it happened yesterday (Sunday).
When the women take over, the men do the housework and all the other jobs usually done by their wives. Once the women have left the men to get on with the work, men who approach the ladies risk being beaten up or chased by women holding buckets of water.
The women spend the day in cafe and taverns drinking and playing games. Then they start dancing -- while the menfolk look on from a safe distance. The women keep up the festivities all night -- then go back to their household chores until next year's "ladies' day."
