Background: Lieutenant General Aman Mikael Andom, the newly-appointed Chairman of the Ethiopian Armed Forces Committee, spent Thursday and Friday (September 12-13) meeting diplomats in Addis Ababa to reassure them that the internal changes in Ethiopia would not upset the country's good relations with the rest of the world.

At the Ministry of Defence on Thursday, General Andom met envoys from Morocco Cameroon, the United States, the Soviet Union, the People's Republic of China, West Germany, Great Britain, France, and Egypt. He also met with the head of the Organisation of African Unity (DAU).

The following day, General Andom received a group of 24 African envoys. He ???old them that "the peaceful change in Ethiopia reflected the genuine characteristic of the African people for progress." He also assured them that the new Ethiopian Government would respect the DAU Charter.

The Armod Forces Committee which deposed Emperor Haile Selassie last week is expected to clarify the positions of the newly-appointed provisional military administration - and of the powerless civilian Government - in the next few days. The Armed Forces have said a new constitution is to be announced, clarifying how and on what basis the new Government and Parliament will be elected.
