    THE MALAYSIAN NAVY IS FURTHER STRENGTHENED TO MEET THE CHALLENGE OF INDONESIAN CONFRONTATION WITH THE ARRIVAL OF THE LAST TWO OF TEN NEW PATROL BOATS INTO SINGAPORE TODAY (WEDNESDAY).

    THE BOATS: SRI NEGRI SEMBILAN AND SRI MELAKA, WERE BUILT IN PORTSMOUTH, BRITAIN, AT THE COST OF TWO MILLION MALAYSIAN DOLLARS EACH (ABOUT 235,000 POUNDS STERLING). EACH BOAT IS MANNED BY THREE OFFICERS AND 18 RATINGS WHO HAVE BEEN IN BRITAIN ON A FOUR-MONTH NAVAL COURSE.

    THE BOATS ARE FULLY EQUIPPED WITH RADARS, ROCKET LAUNCHERS AND SWEDISH GUNS. THE SPEED OF THE BOATS IS A CLOSELY GUARDED SECRET.

    AT THE WHARF TO WELCOME THE OFFICERS AND RATINGS WERE THEIR FAMILIES AND OFFICIALS FROM THE MALAYSIAN NAVY.
