    Background: THE 28TH COMMONWEALTH INFANTRY BRIGADE AT TERENDAK CAMP IN MALACCA ON THE WEST COAT OF WEST MALAYSIA....YESTERDAY (MONDAY), TURN ABDUL RAZAK BECAME THE FIRST MALAYSIAN MINISTER TO VISIT IT. TUN RAZAK IS THE DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER AND DEFENCE MINISTER OF MALAYSIA.

    TUN RAZAK LEAVES SOON FOR AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND. ON HIS ARRIVAL AT THE CAMP, HE WAS MET BY THE GARRISON COMMANDER, BRIGADIER P.L. TANCRED AND GENERAL A.G. PATTERSON.

    THE MALAYSIAN MINISTER SPENT TWO HOURS WITH TROOPS FROM THE TWO COUNTRIES. FIRST, HE VISITED THE WELLINGTON LINES, HOME OF THE 1ST BATTALION, ROYAL NEW ZEALAND REGIMENT...ITS COMMANDING OFFICER, LIEUTENANT COLONEL B.M. POANANGA, SHOWED HIM AROUND.

    THE NEW ZEALANDERS PUTON A BRIEF MORTAR AND OTHER WEAPONS FIRING EXERCISE FOR THE VISITOR.

    THE HIGH COMMISSIONER OF NEW ZEALAND AND AUSTRALIA -- MR. R.H. WADE AND MR. A.J. EASTMAN, RESPECTIVELY -- WERE PRESENT.

    TUN RAZAK PRESENTED A MALAY KRIS (DAGGER) TO LT. COL. POANANGA. (A SIMILAR PRESENTATION WAS ALSO MADE TO THE AUSTRALIAN REGIMENT COMMANDER, LIEUTENANT COLONEL C.H.A. EAST). IN RETURN, THEY GAVE HIM UNIT PLAQUES.

    AT THE CANBERRA LINES OF THE 4TH BATTALION, ROYAL AUSTRALIAN REGIMENT, THE AUSTRALIAN STAGED A SIMILAR WEAPONS EXERCISE FOR TUN RAZAK.
