Crowds line Bunder Road, approach to venue of Meeting, in anticipation of Duke's arrival. These are the common people of Karachi, and of no visit, but they were interested, and cheered lastly and waved happily as the motorcade came in sight
The Duke's procession, preceded by a motorcycle escort, come down main road, and turn right in front of camera, while the Prince waves cheerily from his window
another street scene enroute to the meeting grounds, where groups of small children in the foreground, and purdah-clad women in the background watch with considerable pleasure the unprecedented excitement -- until the women noticed the camera pointed in their direction, at which they turned and ran indoors.
Children running down street to get a closer view of things; camera turns around and catches other children chasing us, whooping and shouting in sheer delight
A typical Karachi traffic jam, blocked up as roads were closed to permit the Prince's entourage through to the Meeting site
A group of eager watchers, perched on walls in front of a mosque, across the street from the meeting site, while a smartly turned-out Karachi policeman attempts to restore some order.
Inside Shamiana, honoured guests seated on dais, Prince Philip in high-backed chair centre, to his right, foreign delegates to the meeting; to his left, Association officials and President Ayub; Dr. B. A. Hashmi Chairman of the Reception Committee, makes the welcoming address
Cutaway scene of the audience; ministers and high commissioners on the front row, shot of H.E. Mohammed Tunku, High Commission of Malaya and his wife
Cutaway scene of Radio Pakistan's tape recording team
Cutaway scene of Press table
Cutaway scene of portion of audience
Cutaway scene of audience clapping as President Ayub takes speaker's rostrum
Shot of President speaking
Cutaway shot of Indian High Commissioner Dayal, dozing through one of the more boring speeches
Cutaway of cameramen as they play an innocent little gambling game as they squat in a corner of shamiana, bored by the general proceedings
The meeting, as you could guess, was excessively dull for TV; lighting atrociously bad, and general subject material uninteresting. We relied mostly on "local colour" to make up the footage, and trust you will find it useful.
