A message of greeting from Indian Prime Minister Mrs. Gandhi was one of the best?

  • Description

A message of greeting from Indian Prime Minister Mrs. Gandhi was one of the best received items on the first day of International Women's Congress in East Berlin, East Germany on Monday (20 October).

In her message Mrs. Gandhi said "Women must break through the ??? restraints because they have an inherent right to equality. Also unless they contribute their genius and energy, the full potential of the human race will remain under utilised and we will not be fully capable of meeting the demands of the future".

About 2,000 delegates from 131 countries have gathered for the four day Congress on the role of women in national and international life.

East German Communist Party Chief Erich Honecker also addressed the women. He said the dream of a world of peace and social progress would be unthinkable without women's contributions.

The Congress -- under the theme "Equality, development and peace" is one of the events of international women's year. It is the follow-up to the International Women's Conference in Mexico City in June.
