  • Description

Talks on problems facing Africa have been held in the Ivory Coast capital of Abidjan between President Felix Houphouet-Boigny and the visiting Prime Minister of the Central African Empire, Ange Patasse. Mr. Patasse said they were discussing measures to ensure that 'blood does not go flowing in Africa'.

SYNOPSIS: A delegation of 24 government officials was sent to Abidjan by Emperor Jean Bokassa of the Central African Empire, who was unable to travel personally to the meeting.

Prime Minister Patasse said the two countries should be expected to consult together 'more or less permanently' at a time when Africa was facing so many problems, particularly in the south and border areas between Somalia and Ethiopia. He said that whatever their political opinions African leaders should always maintain dignity and unity.

Following these talks, President Houphouet-Boigny met with Liberian Minister of State, R. Fownsend, to discuss the appointment of a new Liberian vice-president.
