Background: The Prime Minister of Hungary, Gyorgy lazar, is in Paris this week for talks which are aimed at developing closer relations between the two countries.
SYNOPSIS: Mr. Lazar's first official engagement was meeting with French Prime Minister, Jacques Chirac. It's three years since Hungary and France have met at such a high level. Mr. Lazar hopes that as a result of his trip both countries will be drawn closer together, especially in trade. Commercials and trade relations, although good, are not in great quantity when compared with France's dealings with Russia and Poland.
The volume of exchange between France and hungary has trebled over the past five years, but it is still limited to bout GBP133 million (1,101 million francs).
One subject certain to be brought up during the ministerial meetings is the fact that the French language which at one tome formed a major part in the Hungarian education curriculum, is no losing out to other languages.
