    THAILAND, HAS SUPPLIED TWO WARSHIPS FOR NON-COMBAT DUTIES IN SOUTH VIETNAM WATERS. THE SHIPS LEFT BAN NA NAVAL BASE ON WEDNESDAY.

    THE PRIME MINISTER, MR. KITTIKACHORN WAS AT THE FAREWELL CEREMONY ATTENDED BY A LARGE CROWD OF THE CREW'S RELATIVES AND FRIENDS.

    THE TWO SHIPS, THE LANDING TRANSPORT HMS "PA-NGAN" AND A COASTAL PATROL BOAT, A COMPLEMENT OF ABOUT 200 OFFICERS AND MEN. THEY WILL UNDERTAKE A SIX-MONTH TOUR OF DUTY, TRANSPORTING SUPPLIES BETWEEN SEAPORTS IN SOUTH VIETNAM BEFORE RETURNING FOR A CHANGE OF CREW.

    THERE ARE 30 CONSCRIPTED SEAMEN ON THE PA-NGAN-WHICH IS UNDER THE COMMAND OF LIEUTENANT-COMMANDER PACHERN ANANTSURAKAS.

    THE PA-NGAN, THOUGH BUILT IN 1945, HAS BEEN IN THAILAND FOR ONLY FIVE WEEKS. IT FORMERLY SERVED IN THE UNITED STATES NAVY AND IS CAPABLE OF TRANSPORTING 200 FULLY EQUIPPED SOLDIERS.

    THE VESSELS FROM THAILAND'S FIRST NAVAL CONTINGENT IN VIETNAM. A ROYAL THAI AIR FORCE CONTINGENT HAS BEEN THERE FOR MORE THAN A YEAR.

    SYNOPSIS: THIS IS THE SECOND GROUP OF THAI SERVICEMEN TO GO TO VIETNAM. AN AIR FORCE CONTINGENT HAS BEEN THERE FOR MORE THAN A YEAR.
