SYNOPSIS: An official party of the Zaire Republic formerly called the Democratic Republic of the Congo recently toured this modern timber processing plant in the Lake Leopold District. The Government of Bandundu Province Mr. Kaniki led the official delegation in the city of Nicki. The new plant is being called the economic centre of the city.

Before the new facility was completed, raw timber had to be transported out of the district for processing elsewhere. This was a costly and time-consuming process. The new plant enables both time and money to be saved as raw timber is transformed by hand and modern machinery into useful forms.

Mr. Kaniki, accompanied by Mr. Makolo, Commissioner of the Lake District, and Mr. Binard, chief executive of Bandundu Province were shown all aspects of the complex timber transformation process. The new facility should be able to help the Zaire Republic's construction industry, most of the wood processed in converted into valuable sheets of plywood that are necessary in the building of houses and factories.
