  • Description

November 7th is the Soviet people's biggest national holiday the anniversary of the socialist revolution.

Forty nine years ago the Communist party lead by Lenin roused the workers, peasants, and soldiers in Russia to a victorious attack on the old world. The people carried out a revolution and took power into their own hands.

One hundred different nationalities inhabit the Soviet Union. for all of them the anniversary is a big holiday. The most thrilling celebrations take place in Moscow, on Red Square at the foot of Lenin's Mausoleum.

Against the background of the ancient red-brick crenelated Kremlin wall and the dark-red marble Mausoleum, crimson banners flutter in the wind. The stands for the spectators are filled with veterans of the revolution and labour, and foreign guests.

The leaders of the Communist Party and Government ascend to the reviewing stand on the Mausoleum.

The chimes of the Kremlin clock float through the air. With the last, tenth, stroke an open car drives out from the Spassky tower. In it is the Soviet Defence Minister Marshal Malinovsky, who is taking the salute. From the other end of the Square comes the car with Lieutenant-General Yevgeny Ivanovsky, first deputy commander of the armed forces of the Moscow area. The commander of the troops to be reviewed. After making the rounds of the troops, the Defence Minister takes his place on the reviewing stand.

    Trumpets signal "Attention".

The Soviet Defence Minister Marshal Malinovsky congratulates the Armed Forces, the working people of the Soviet Union, and guests form abroad on the 49th anniversary of the Great October Socialist revolution.

Marshal Malinovsky spoke of the quick pace of development of the socialist industries - the basis of the economic and defence might of the Soviet state. He went on to say that the Soviet state is steering a course aimed at strengthening the unity and solidarity of the countries of socialism, at supporting the national liberation struggle of the peoples and at building up cooperation with the newly emerged developing states.

Speaking of the aggressive policy of the imperialist powers and primarily the United States Marshal Malinowsky pointed out that its criminal actions in Vietnam and elsewhere in Asia have heightened the danger of a new world war.

The Soviet Union true to its international duty, has been extending comprehensive aid to the Vietnam people and shall continue to do so. The Soviet defence Minister expressed certainly that Vietnam would be victorious.

The stand taken by the leaders of the Chinese People Republic is most regretful, he went on. They oppose united action on the part of the socialist countries in support of the Vietnam people. This encourages American imperialism to fresh crime.

Spoaking of the West Germany revenge-seekers who are pushing ahead Marshal Malinovsky recommends that they bear in mind the fate of Hitler's invaders.

The defence minister emphasised in conclusion that the Soviet Armed forces, in militant alliance with the fraternal armies, are prepared to uphold with honours the freedom and independence of the countries of the socialist community and to strike a crushing blow at any aggressor.

Then the melody of the national anthem blends with a gun salute. The parade opens with a march-past of officers battalions from the military academies, followed by armoured troop carriers.

Then tanks roll onto the square, and after them - self-propelled guns. Guns with a super-long range bring up the rear of the artillery. Then the rocket troops take over. The first to come through the square are the intermediate-range solid fuel missiles mounted on self-propelled launchers. These are strategic missiles that can constantly change their firing positions and are invulnerable for the enemy attack. They are always poised for immediate action.

The intermediate-range rockets are followed by inter-continental ballistic missiles that are unparallel
