Background: West Berlin's governing Mayor Klaus Schuetz today had talks with Polish Foreign Minister Dr. Stefan Jedrychowski. The meeting took place in the Polish Foreign Ministry in Warsaw after Herr Schuetz had laid wreaths on three Polish war memorials during a tour of the capital.

The 43-year-old Mayor, the highest ranking West German politician to visit Poland since the war, is on a two-day visit as guest of the Polish Foreign Trade Chamber.

Herr Schuetz visited the site of the Warsaw Ghetto, the monument to the Heroes of Warsaw and the site of the infamous cellar used by the Gestapo. He placed wreaths on all three.

Yesterday, on a two-and-a-half hour tour of the Poznan Fair, Herr Schuetz was accompanied by his wife, West Berlin City Councillor for Economic Affairs Dr. Karl Koenig, and the vice-President of West Berlin's Chamber for Commerce and Industry, Herr Guenther Wilitzki.

When he signed the visitor's book as he left, Herr Schuetz praised Polish products he had seen, and said he hoped his visit would contribute to peaceful co-operation.
