  • Description

AT THE END OF HIS VISIT TO INDONESIA, THE JAPANESE PRIME MINISTER THINKS THERE ARE GOOD PROSPECTS OF A PEACEFUL SETTLEMENT TO THE MALAYSIA ISSUE. WHILE WILLING TO ACT AS A MEDIATOR, HE THINKS THE OUTLOOK IS SUCH, THAT THIS SERVICES WILL NOT BE REQUIRED.

ON THE LAST DAY OF HIS INDONESIAN VISIT, MR IKEDA, ACCOMPANIED BY HIS WIFE AND DAUGHTER, PAID A FAREWELL CALL ON DR. SUKARNO, AT HE SUMMER PALACE IN BOGOR, 40 MILES FROM DJAKARTA. ALSO PRESENT WERE MEMBERS OF THE INDONESIAN GOVERNMENT. LATER THE PARTY TOURED THE BOGOR BOTANICAL GARDENS - FAMOUS FOR A MAGNIFICENT COLLECTION OF ORCHIDS.

ON THE POSSIBILITY OF A 'SUMMIT' MEETING OF THOSE INVOLVED IN THE MALAYSIA DISPUTE, MR IKEDA THINKS IT BETTER THAT SUCH TALKS SHOULD BE HELD IN MANILA, (SCENE OF THE TALKS, LAST AUGUST BEFORE THE SETTING UP OF MALAYSIA), RATHER THAN IN KUALA LUMPUR.

THE JAPANESE PRIME MINISTER AND HIS PARTY, ARE NOW IN AUSTRALIA, FOR TALKS WITH THE GOVERNMENT OF SIR ROBERT MENZEIS. THEY WILL BE GOING ON THE NEW ZEALAND NEXT THURSDAY.
