Australia has presented 50 Land Rovers - a type of British Jeep - to Cambodia to help the war effort. They were handed over at a ceremony in Phnom Penh on Tuesday.
The gift is part of a half-million dollar aid programme announced by the Australian Government in June. The vehicles will be followed shortly by the presentation of 30 mobile radios.
At the handover, Australia was represented by its Ambassador to Cambodia, Mr G.B. Feakes, and Cambodia by the President of the Council of Ministers, Brigadier-General Srey-Saman.
Mr Feakes said he hoped the Land Rovers would be of significant help 'in the defence of Cambodia'. He told the Cambodian Army drivers present that the Canberra government and the Australian people supported 'your great popular struggle'.
