A TWO-WEEK PERIOD OF TRAINING, THE NATIONAL GUARD TAKES PART IN REGULAR ARMY EXERCISES, LIKE THIS ASSAULT CROSSING OF THE BLACK RIVER BY RESERVISTS UNDER TRAINING AT FORT DRUM, IN NEW YORK STATE. TO STRENGTHEN UNITED STATES MILITARY FORCES TO MEET A WORLD-WIDE COMMUNIST THREAT, PRESIDENT KENNEDY SAID HE WAS ASKING CONGRESS FOR ???1,200 MILLION.
