    KING CONSTANTINE OF GREECE OPENED THE 16TH INTERNATIONAL ASTRONAUTICAL CONGRESS YESTERDAY (MONDAY) AT THE 1800-YEAR-OLD ROMAN THEATRE OF HERODUS ATTICUS IN ATHENS. MANY INTERNATIONAL SPACE PERSONALITIES WERE PRESENT AT THE OPENING INCLUDING THE TWO SOVIET COSMONAUTS LIEUTENANT COLONEL ALEXEI LEONOV AND COLONEL PAVEL BELAYEV, PROFESSOR LEONID SEDOV, RUSSIA'S "FATHER OF THE SPUTNIK", PROFESSOR WILLIAM PICKERING, PRESIDENT OF THE INTERNATIONAL ASTRONAUTICAL FEDERATION AND DR WERNER VON BRAUN, GERMAN-BORN US ROCKET SCIENTIST.

    MORE THAN A THOUSAND SCIENTISTS FROM SOME 42 COUNTRIES ARE EXPECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CONGRESS WHICH WILL LAST UNTIL SEPT 18. THE PLENARY SESSION OF THE CONGRESS WILL EXAMINE AMONG OTHER SUBJECTS -- DESIGN OF SPACECRAFT, CONTROL AND GUIDANCE OF SPACE VEHICLES, PHYSIOLOGICAL REACTIONS DURING FLIGHT, ORBITS OF ARTIFICIAL EARTH SATELLITES AND THE FUTURE OF SOLID PROPELLANTS.
