Colonel Seyni Kountche, Head of State of Niger, arrived back in his capital, Niamey, on Saturday (5 October). The Colonel had paid brief visits of Upper-Volta and Togo to confer with President Sangoule Lamizana and President Gnassingbe Eyedema.
This was the first visit made by Colonel Kountche outside his own country since the coup d'etat which overthrew former President Hamani Diori last April.
Colonel Kountche had first visited Upper Volta where he conferred for an hour with President Lamizana before flying on to Togo for a meeting with President Eyadema. In Togo, he signed a joint communique with President Eyadema which emphasised the good relations existing between their two countries and called for a new economic system guaranteeing fair prices for raw materials. They also discussed the agenda of a West African Monetary Union summit conference to be held in Lome in the near future.
