    THE FIVE ENTENTE COUNCIL STATES - IVORY COAST, DAHOMEY, NIGER, UPPER VOLTA AND TOGO - HAVE DECIDED TO REINFORCE THEIR CO-OPERATION WITH GHANA'S NEW GOVERNMENT. PRESIDENT HAMANI DIORI, OF NIGER, SAID AT THE END OF THE TWO-DAY MEETING OF THE HEADS OF THE FRENCH-SPEAKING WEST AFRICAN NATIONS, THAT THE COUNCIL WOULD CONTINUE ITS EFFORTS TOWARDS A TRUE AFRICAN UNITY WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE COUNCIL AND OF THE ORGANISATION FOR AFRICAN UNITY.

    APART FROM PRESIDENT DIORI, THREE OTHER HEADS OF STATE ATTENDED THE MEETING - PRESIDENT FELIX HOUPHOUET-BOIGNY OF IVORY COAST, PRESIDENT LAMIZANA OF UPPER VOLTA AND PRESIDENT CHRISTOPHE SOGLO OF DAHOMEY. TOGO'S PRESIDENT GRUNITZKY WAS REPRESENTED BY HIS FOREIGN MINISTER, MR. APEDOH AMAH.

    DURING THE MEETING, THE FIVE STATES DECIDED TO INCREASE ECONOMIC CO-OPERATION AMONG THEMSELVES.

    HIGH ON THE AGENDA - WHICH WAS NOT PUBLISHED - IS BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN THE SUBJECT OF GHANA. THREATS BY PRESIDENT SEKOU TOURE, OF GUINEA, TO SEND TROOPS THROUGH IVORY COAST TO GHANA TO TRY TO REINSTATE DR. NKRUMAH HAVE CREATED TENSION BETWEEN IVORY COAST AND GUINEA.

    THE FIVE STATES REAFFIRMED THEIR "TOTAL UNITY OF VIEWS AND ENTIRE AND COMPLETE SOLIDARITY ON ALL QUESTIONS LINKED TO THE OVERTHROW OF DR. KWAME NKRUMAH AND THE UNTIMELY STATEMENTS OF PRESIDENT SEKOU TOURE", ACCORDING TO A COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AFTER THE MEETING.

    IN A STATEMENT AT THE END OF THE MEETING, PRESIDENT DIORI REFERRED TO THE SITUATION IN GHANA AND WENT ON TO SAY:
