England overwhelmed the Russian speedway team today (Tuesday) to win the fifth match and the 1966 Test series. England took 71 points to the U.S.S.R.'s 37.
The points scores in the fifth match were:
ENGLAND: N. Boocock 13 1/2, C. Tratt 12 1/2, T. Hedge I, N. Hunter 18, B. Brett 6, T. Betts 15, R. Tuckhurst I, M. Scrimmons 4.
U.S.S.R.: I. Plechanov II, Y. Chekranov 4, B. Samorodov 9, V. Trofimov 6, G. Kurilenko 2, G. Kadirov 5.
The Russian team proved much too strong for England in the first match at Newcastle in Northern England earlier this month but in the following series England fought back to finally carry off the test.
One member of the Russian team, Igor Plechanov, did well in the 1965 World Speedway championship when he tied for second place. But even his vigorous riding could not stave off overall defeat to the England team.
