Background: During the past few days the Kabaka of Buganda has been celebrating his 35th birthday. The Kabaka - vigorous leader f the independence campaign in this British colony - was exiled in 1953 and has held limited powers since his return in 1955.
Birthday colorations began with a service at Namireube Cathedral, attended by the Kabaka, his wife, and the Bishop of Uganda, Dr. Leslie Brown.
Later, who Kabaka watched finals of football and wrestling competitions.
The Kabaka, reversing its previous policy, recently denounced Buganda's 9-month-old boycott of non-African goods and services, directed against the country's powerful minority of Indians and Pakistanis and aimed at weakening the British position in Buganda.
Concessions regarding demands for independence are believed to have brought about the Kabaka's shift of policy.
