Background: INTRODUCTION: Two English clubs did well away from home in the first leg of their European Cup games on Wednesday (21 October). Liverpool, European cup winners in three of the last five years, should have beaten the Dutch side AZ 67 Alkmaar in Amsterdam but came away with a 2-2 draw. In East Berlin, Aston Villa belied their poor domestic league performance with a fine 2-1 victory over Dynamo Berlin.
SYNOPSIS: Morley was Villa's two-goal hero. He volleyed home this first goal after only five minutes.
It was the signal for powerful attacks by Dynamo. They were unlucky when this header from Strasser hit the post and bounced to safety.
Six minutes into the second half, Riediger headed home the equaliser.
With nine minutes to go, the Villa substitute Linton gave away this penalty.
Ulrich hit the post and Rimmer did well to save the rebound.
Four minutes later, Morley scored the goal of the match. He began his long run deep in his own half, shrugged off defenders, and slipped the ball past Dynamo's tall 'keeper Rudwaleit.
Liverpool seemed to have their game against AZ 67 in Amsterdam in control. Johnson scored mid-way through the first half.
And their lead looked unassailable when Lee lobbed this delicate chip shot over the 'keeper Treytel.
But, as so often this season, Liverpool let it slip. Hansen let Kist score his sixteenth of the season.
In the 85th minute, Peters put through Tol, and the Dutch striker cut through the Liverpool defence to equalise the scores.
