Prime Minister Rabin this morning presented his widened coalition government to the Knesset. The National?
Prime Minister Rabin this morning presented his widened coalition government to the Knesset. The National Religious Party, members of each government since the earliest cabinets, stayed out of the Rabin govt after the last elections because of the "Who is a Jew" question. Yesterday though, they did sign a coalition agreement with representatives of all the parties represented in the cabinet and only if and when the question of ceding parts of the West Bank in a possible peace agreement with Jordan should become an actuality would the Rabin govt have to go for new elections anyhow, not only because the NRP is committed to not returning those areas, religiously/politically part of the Promised Land, which God has given to the people of Israel and which no religious Jew has therefore a right to give away. The members of the new cabinet, duely sworn in after the Vote of confidence of the House after a three hour debate, are: Dr. Burg (Min of Int.), Y. Raffael (Min ofmRel. Affairs) and Mr. Chazani (Min. of Social Welfare). With the decision of the Civil Rights Movement to leave the government, the Rabin coalition now commands a majority of 69 in the 120 member house.
