    PRESIDENT KENNETH KAUNDA TOOK THE SALUTE AT AN AIR FORCE AND ARMY REVIEW AS MARSHAL OF THE ZAMBIAN ARMED FORCES -- A RANK AWARDED HIM BY THE DEFENCE COUNCIL ON THE EVE OF THE ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS.

    INCLUDED IN THE REVIEW WERE UNITS OF THE ZAMBIAN ARMY, ARMOURED CARS, FIELD GUNS, POLICE MOBILE UNITS, THE POLICE BAND AND EVEN MUNICIPAL WORKERS DRESSED IN DUST COATS.

    AIRCRAFT OF THE ZAMBIAN AIR FORCE FLEW OVER AS THE PARADE STRETCHED DOWN CAIRO ROAD -- LUSAKA'S MAIN STREET.

    LATER PRESIDENT KAUNDA WENT TO THE INDEPENDENCE STADIUM TO WATCH A DISPLAY OF GYMNASTICS. GIRLS AND MEN SHOWED A SERIES OF CALLISTHENICS BEFORE A CROWD OF 40,000.

    ACCOMPANYING THE PRESIDENT WAS GENERAL LEONARD MULAMBA, THE PRIME MINISTER OF CONGO-KINSHASA.

    (FOR THE SECOND DAY RUNNING, PRESIDENT KAUNDA WARNED OF DRASTIC STEPS TO BE TAKEN AGAINST WHAT HE CALLED WHITE RACIALISTS ON THE ZAMBIAN C???PPER ELT. BUT HE ALSO WARNED HIS COUNTRYMEN AGAINST STARTING WITCH-HUNTS AGAINST WHITES.)
