AN ANCIENT BUDDHIST TEMPLE REDISCOVERED IN CENTRAL JAVA, INDONESIA, IN 1814 BY A DUTCH ENGINEER AND RESTORED TO USE IS NOW UNDERGOING ANOTHER RESTORATION UNDER THE AUSPICES OF UNESCO -- THE UNITED NATIONS EDUCATION, SCIENTIFIC AND CULTURAL ORGANISATION.

THE TEMPLE IS THE BOROBUDUR TEMPLE, REDISCOVERED BY DR, TH. VAN ERP. IT WAS OPENED TO TOURIST INSPECTION AFTER 1911. IN 1956, UNESCO SENT DR. COREMAN, A BELGIAN EXPERT, TO MAKE AN INSPECTION FOR ANOTHER RESTORATION. THE WORK, FINISHED IN ABOUT 1965, WAS PAID FOR BY THE INDONESIAN GOVERNMENT.

THE BUILDING WAS AGAIN INSPECTED BY UNESCO ENGINEERS A FEW MONTHS AGO, AND FURTHER RESTORATION WORK WAS DECISED ON. THIS TIME UNESCO WILL MEET THE COSTS, EXPECTED TO RUN AS HIGH AS 3,000,000 UNITED STATES DOLLARS.
