Background: INTRODUCTION: Bombay in India has been the scene of a large demonstration against the state government of Maharastra.Alleged corruption of local government officials is at the centre of the protest.

SYNOPSIS: The precession was organised by Trade Unions not affiliated to the Congress Party of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The demonstrators called for the resignation of the local government of Maharastra. They alleged that the State's Chief Minister, was corrupt. They said he had misused his position in the government for collecting private funds. The affair has come up before the Indian Parliament and it has been reported that some senior Congress Party officials would like the Minister to resign.

One of the organisers of the procession addressed the crowd.

The police cordon was clearly unwilling to let the marchers go any nearer to the State Council building where an opposition motion on the corruption charges was being debated.
