  • Description

When President Eisenhower returns from Paris to the British Isles, September 4, he will retire for the week-end to Culzean Castle in Ayrshire, on the west coast of Scotland.

Less than an hour's car ride from Prestwick airport, the castle, in its delightful woodland setting high on top of steep cliffs, was last visited by the American President in 1951. Since 1953, a suite of rooms on the top floor has been at the disposal of president Eisenhower, as a token of Scotland's thanks for his services as Supreme Commander of the Allied forces in the Second World War.

Resting from long days of strenuous talks in Germany, Britain and France, the President will have time to devote himself to has favourite pastime - playing golf. The area around Culzean Castle is famous for its golfing facilities: the Ailsa course, one of Britain's great links; gorse-encircled Arran; Old Prestwick, where 99 years ago the first open championship was played; and places like Troon, Barassie and the Gailes.

His well-earned brief holiday over, President Eisenhower will return to Washington where he is expected to receive Soviet Premier Khrushchev September 15.
