    Background: On Wednesday (10th March), President Anwar Sadat of the United Arab Republic visited Cairo's new Cathedral of St. Mark to pay his respects at the lying-in-state of Pope Kyrillos, Sixth Patriarch of the Coptic Orthodox Church, who died of a heart-attack on Tuesday at the age of 69. Pope Kyrillos was to be buried at the Cathedral today (Thursday).

    Archbishop Anba Antonious of Sohag, Southern Egypt, has been appointed Acting Patriarch until a new one can be appointed to succeed Pope Kyrillos.
