In Bolivia, the civilian government of President Hernan Siles Zuazo has launched a nationwide offensive against drug trafficking. In recent report to the Senate, Interior Minister Mario Roncal has admitted the authorities do not have enough means to deal with the illegal trade, which is allegedly widespread among the armed forces. Most of the military leader implicated are said to have fled the country when President Siles Zuazo came to power last October. So far, six hundred people have been arrested, and vast quantities of illegal drugs - notably cocaine - seized and burnt in the latest swoops by government agents. President Zuazo, who took over form military dictator, General Luis Garcia, has pledged to wipe out corruption at all levels of society.
