    Eleven African nations have signed an agreement which will help finance development programmes within their own countries. The agreement -- signed in Mauritius on Wednesday (4 May) -- was made with the African Development Bank (ADB) and the Fund for African Development (FAD).

    SYNOPSIS: The signing ceremony took pace in Port Louis, Mauritius. Representing the ADB was the organisation's President, Dr. Kwame Fordwor -- see here on the right. With him is Mozambique's Finance Minister, Mr. Salomao Munguambe. The other countries to benefit from the fund will be Somalia, Upper Volta, the Ivory Coast, Togo, Liberia, Ghana, Rwanda, Malawi and Tanzania. The money from the two development organisations will help those countries complete programmes aimed at fully utilising their natural resources.
