INTRODUCTION The Hungarian Foreign Minister, Mr. Frigyes Puja, has been in Britain on a two-day visit for talks about possible increases in trade between the two countries. He was also due to discuss the results so far of the 1975 Helsinki declaration on East-West detente.
SYNOPSIS: On Tuesday (1 March) Mr Puja went to Number 10 Downing Street for talks with Prime Minister James Callaghan. He earlier held talks with the new Foreign Secretary, Dr David Owen. Mr Puja is the first Hungarian Foreign minster to visit Britain for more than 10 years. His visit was arranged during a trip by Mr Callaghan to Hungary two years ago, when Mr Callaghan himself was Foreign Secretary. At his meeting with Dr Owen, Mr Puja discussed the 35-state conference to be held in Belgrade in June. This will assess how far the 1975 Helsinki declaration of the European security summit has been carried out. The talks were described as useful and friendly.
