Background: PRESIDENT NASSER RECEIVED DELEGATES FROM 38 ARAB AND MOSLEM STATED ON MONDAY (5 MARCH) AT THE END OF A FIVE DAY CONFERENCE OF RELIGIOUS LEADERS IN CAIRO.

HE REBUKED THE ARAB WORLD FOR WHAT HE CALLED HUMBLE EFFORTS IN THE WAR AGAINST ISRAEL. HE SAID ISRAEL HAD FUND RAISING COMMITTEES WORKING FOR IT IN ALMOST EVERY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD AND URGED THE ARABS TO DO THE SAME.

HE ADDED THAT EGYPT ITSELF CHERISHED PEACE, BUT IT WANTED ITS RIGHTS AND WAS PREPARING TO FIGHT TO LIBERATE THE OCCUPIED TERRITORIES.

THE CONFERENCE CALLED ON ALL ISLAMIC COUNTRIES TO GIVE FINANCIAL BACKING TO THE PALESTINIANS AND THOSE COUNTRIES WHOSE LANDS WERE OCCUPIED BY THE ISRAELIS IN THE 1967 WAR. IT ALSO PROPOSED THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A SPECIAL "HOLY WAR FUND".
