Background: LARGE CROWDS GATHERED OUTSIDE THE PONTIAN POLICE STATION IN SOUTHERN MALAYA LAST WEDNESDAY FOR A GLIMPSE OF SEVERAL CAPTURED INDONESIAN INFILTRATORS AND THE LARGE QUANTITIES OF FIRE-ARMS, AMMUNITION, DOCUMENTS AND MAPS OF MALAYA SEIZED BY MALAYSIAN SECURITY FORCES.

ABOUT HALF OF THE INDONESIANS WHO INFILTRATED INTO PONTIAN ON MONDAY FROM A NEIGHBOURING INDONESIAN ISLAND HAVE NOW BEEN EITHER KILLED OR CAPTURED. MORE WEAPONS, EQUIPMENT, AND AMMUNITION HAVE ALSO BEEN SEIZED INCLUDING SEVERAL RADIOS AND 'WALKIE-TALKIES'. SOME OF THE WEAPONS ARE SAID TO HAVE BEEN MADE IN RUSSIA.

THE CAPTURED INDONESIANS ARE TO BE CHARGED IN COURT AS SOON AS INVESTIGATIONS ARE COMPLETED. IF CONVICTED, THEY WOULD BE SENTENCED TO DEATH.

WHILE SECURITY FORCES ARE STILL KEEPING UP A ROUND-THE-CLOCK WATCH IN THE PONTIAN AREA FOR THE REMAINING INDONESIANS, THE INDONESIAN GOVERNMENT HAS DENIED THAT HER FORCES LANDED ON MALAYAN SHORES.

TUNKU OSMAN BIN MOHAMED JEWA, CHIEF OF THE MALAYSIAN ARMED FORCES STAFF, AND MAJOR-GENERAL DATO ABDUL HAMID, CHIEF OF THE GENERAL STAFF, ALSO VISITED THE PONTIAN POLICE STATION. THEY WERE BRIEFED BY OFFICERS OF THE SECURITY FORCES ON THE LATEST SITUATION.

(REPORTS FROM MALAYSIA SAY SECURITY FORCES HAVE KILLED FOUR INDONESIAN INFILTRATORS AND WOUNDED SEVERAL OTHERS IN A CLASH TODAY NEAR PONTIAN. ONE MALAYSIAN SOLDIER WAS KILLED. ABOUT FORTY INDONESIAN GUERILLAS.)
