SYNOPSIS: On Friday, June thirtieth, Zaire celebrated the twelfth anniversary of the former Congo's Independence from Belgium. One of the events to commemorate the occasion, was the opening of Zaire's Third National Trade Fair at Fikin. The Fair, whose theme this year was "Consommer Zairois" - or consume national products - was officially opened by the President of the National Assembly, Citizen Boboliko, here being greeted by Fair officials.
After the official greetings were over, Citizen Boboliko unveiled a statue symbolising the working man of the Zaire Republic. Among the other dignitaries present at the occasion, the Minister of Commerce and the Commissioner of the Fair.
Then, watched by officials and a crowd anxious to enter the Fair, Citizen Boboliko cut the inaugural ribbon and declared the Fair open.
The official party then visited the exhibition - which displayed products from all over the country.
Special attention was paid to the GECOMINES stand - the State Mining Company which controls the country's important mineral production. Copper, Manganese, coal and zinc concentrate are Zaire's top money earners at home and abroad.
