  • Description

    M. MATHIEU EKRA, IVORY COAST INFORMATION MINISTER, PASSED THROUGH LONDON TODAY (THURSDAY) ON HIS WAY TO OSLO FOR A TELEVISION MEETING -- AND RAN INTO AN AIRPORT TRAFFIC HOLDUP CAUSED BY THE BEATLES.

    M. EKRA WAS ON HIS WAY TO OSLO TO TAKE PART IN THE INTERNATIONAL CONSULTATIVE COMMITTEE ON RADIO COMMUNICATIONS. ONE OF THE SUBJECTS TO BE DISCUSSED AT THE CONFERENCE IS THE CHOICE O A TECHNICAL SYSTEM OF COLOUR TELEVISION FOR EUROPE. THE SECRETARY OF THE COMMITTEE HAS DESCRIBED THIS MEETING AS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT IN THE COMMITTEE'S HISTORY. M. EKRA SAID THIS SUBJECT WAS NOT OF DIRECT INTEREST TO THE IVORY COAST AS HIS COUNTRY DID NOT HAVE COLOUR TELEVISION.

THE MINISTER WAS ACCOMPANIED BY M. EDO KWAME, DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMMES OF THE IVORY COAST RADIO AND TELEVISION. IN THE AIRPORT LOUNGE TO GREET THEM WAS M. SIMEON AKE, AMBASSADOR OF THE IVORY COAST IN GREAT BRITAIN.

SOON AFTER LEAVING THE PLANE, M. EKRA'S CAR WAS HELD UP BY CROWDS OF TEENAGERS SEEING THE BRITISH POP GROUP THE BEATLES OFF TO CONCERTS IN HAMBURG AND TOKYO.
