  • Description

United States Congress members and Vietnamese officers yesterday clashed verbally during meetings at Davis Camp within Tan Son Nhut airport in Saigon.
Seven members of a Congressional fact-finding team, in Indochina to evaluate the situation before voting on President Ford's request for additional military aid, first mot the North Vietnamese delegation and then with the Viet Cong.
Neither meeting got beyond the fist question --- Communist help in locating the bodies of Americans killed in the Vietnam war.
With 80 newsmen crowding around, acid exchanges erupted between Congressman John Flynt and North Vietnam's Colonel Nguyen Doc Bao. Colonel Bao asked if it was reasonable for Americans to seek this information while still supplying war material to South Vietnam.
In the second meeting, the head of the Viet Cong delegation, General Hoanh Anh Tuan replied to the American demands by telling them he believed they'd come to exchange views and hear his delegation's viewpoint to understand the situation in Vietnam better. He added he would not be forced to answer questions and closed the meeting abruptly.
The Congressional party left Saigon last night for Washington.
