Background: The Stampede Corral, at Calgary, Alberta, was the scene of the world curling championship. The final between Scotland and Canada was played on Thursday night, March 19, 196. It was the first time in the six years of competition the contest had been held outside Scotland. Canada, represented by the four-man rink from British Columbia (skipper Lyall Dagg) won again. She's never lost. But this year, Scotland forced an extra end to be played. After the regulation 12 ends the teams were tied ten-all. Canada was lying two with skipper Alex Torrance, of Scotland to deliver his last rock. He slid through the house (shown on film) and Dagg didn't need to play his last rock. Canada had won the Scotch Cup 12-10. More than 20-thousand people attended during the four days of competition. Two countries competed for the first time - Norway and Switzerland. Other countries were Canada, USA, Scotland and Sweden. The two newcomers were sidelined in round-robin play on the first three days. On the final day, Scotland beat the United States, and canada beat Sweden in the semi-finals.
