    Background: The start of the 1983 Formula One motor racing Grand Prix season is less than four moths away and leading teams are now busy testing new drivers for the championship. At Silverstone on October 26, rising stars of the Formula Three circuit were being put through their paces by McLaren Racing. Leading team driver, John Watson, who was runner up in the 1982 F1 championship,set a time on the circuit, and then let the newcomers try to match it. Two of the aspirants to Formula One laurels were Stefan Johansson of Sweden and Thierry Boutsen from Belgium.
