  • Description

Shipping through the Saint Lawrence Seaway closed earlier but the Welland canal was kept open until midnight December 15th. Two ships made their way through on the last day.

The Hamildoc, a coaler of Patterson Steamship Lines, passed through the canal on her way to Toronto, where she will spend the winter. The 1964 shipping season is believed to be a record one for the Welland canal although final figures are not yet available. The second ship to pass through was Avondale, a bulk unloader, out of Hamilton, Bermuda. She is heading downriver to spend the winter at Cardinal, near Prescott, Ontario
