  • Description

Seventeen Indians, who had been refused entry into Britain because they had no permits have, after being stranded at Cairo Airport for over a month, been granted temporary residence permits by Britain.

The Indians, who had been working in Uganda, have been living in rooms at the Airport and supplied with food by the British Embassy during their long wait.

For more than four weeks the Indians joined the ranks of many others like them who, though they hold British Passports, have been refused permission to enter the United Kingdom because of strict quota laws.

Unable to return to the country of their departure, they have been forced to seek refuge in any land that will take them.

The seventeen stranded in Cairo were expected to leave for Britain this weekend (July 11/12) following the British Foreign Office decision to allow them temporary entry.
