The conference first heard from the Secretary General of the conference's organisation, Mr. Abdul Karim Gaya. Later President Zia-ul-Haq reminded delegates that as the major suppliers of oil, they should exploit their advantage and build a sound industrial base for the future when the oil ran out. He said thought should be given to power sources other than oil. President Zia said nuclear power was an important alternative and Pakistan was making the most serious efforts to acquire it.
