    DJAKARTA THIS WEEK HAS SEEN DAILY DEMONSTRATIONS AGAINST THE POWER OF PRESIDENT SUKARNO. ON THURSDAY, A 50,000-STRONG RALLY BY STUDENTS, PEASANTS AND WORKERS IN FAVOUR OF ARMY STRONG MAN, LIEUTENANT-GENERAL SUHARTO, WAS ADDRESSED BY GENERAL ABDUL HARIS NASUTION, CHAIRMAN OF THE PEOPLES' CONSULTATIVE CONGRESS. HE TOLD THEM THE ARMED FORCES WERE DETERMINED TO CARRY OUT THE RECENT CONGRESS DECREES, WHICH INCLUDE OUTLAWING COMMUNISM, STRIPPING PRESIDENT SUKARNO OF HIS LIFE PRESIDENCY, FORMING A NEW CABINET AND ENDING CONFRONTATION WITH MALAYSIA.

    THE DJAKARTA GARRISON COMMANDER, MAJOR-GENERAL AMIR MACHMUD, ALSO ADDRESSED THE RALLY.

    TODAY (SATURDAY) SOME 2,000 TROOPS AND POLICE JOINED THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS IN A MASSIVE PARADE THROUGH THE STREETS OF CENTRAL DJAKARTA. IT WAS THE FIRST TIME THE MILITARY HAD JOINED THE STUDENTS, WHO HAVE PLAYED A MAJOR ROLE IN CURBING PRESIDENT SUKARNO'S POWERS.
