  • Description

At Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah, U.S.A., Donald Campbell began trial runs in Bluebird, Sept 5, before attempting to break the world landspeed record later this month.

Two runs were made - at 120 m.p.h. and 170 m.p.h. Mr. Campbell said he was well pleased with the car's performance "but there is still much work to be done." Later, in the United States Air Force Hangar at Wendover which serves as a garage and machine shop, mechanics took stripped Bluebird down. Changes will be made in the steering ratio, especially, at present the car tends to veer if the steering wheel is moved as little as half an inch. Tests will probably take 3 weeks, and until the team of experts are completely satisfied, no attempt will be made on the record.
