Nicklaus completed the last eighteen holes today (Saturday) with a seventy card for an aggregate of 282 over the seventy two holes.
Dave Thomas (Britain) and Doug Sanders (united States) tied for second place with aggregates of 283. Thomas completed the championships with a sixty nine card. Sanders had a card seventy.
Nicklaus won the title after a dramatic recovery. He was two strokes behind his compatriot Phil Rodgers after the third round.
Rodgers faded today with a final card of 76. But Sanders and Thomas were able to make more of the final round.
Nicklaus made only one failure in the competition - yesterday when he took a discomforting 75 on the third round.
Four players shared fourth position - Phil Rodgers, Gary Player (South Africa) and Bruce Devlin and Kel Nagle (Australia) on 286.
