  • Description

British medical teams and supplies arrived at the British RAF base at Akrotiri, south west Cyprus, on Monday morning (September 21) aboard two Royal Air Force hercules transport aircraft, to take part in an international relief operation to Jordan.

Altogether nine RAF transport aircraft are expected to take part in the operations, which will be coordinated by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). A British forces spokesman said that units of a 50-bed light field hospital would be brought in by the other seven aircraft.

Already assembled in Akrotiri are medical supplies-including blood plasma-- a field ambulance section, a surgical team and a casualty evacuation team.

The Cyprus Government has offered hospital treatment in Cyprus for 40 patients from Jordan in response to an appeal by the ICRC.
