Background: One of Adolf Eichmann's aides, Franz Novak, 48 year-old former SS captain, arrested by Austrian police, Jan 20, was being detained at Vienna county court, Jan 21. Cameramen were not allowed inside.

Novak admitted to his captors he served with Eichmann in the Nazi programme aimed at the extermination of Jews. He was arrested on his way to work in Vienna as manager of a printing plant and publishing house.

Police said Novak lived under his true name with his wife and son in the village of Lang-Enzersdorf, near Vienna, but they were not available to callers.

Novak's arrest came a few hours after the Frankfurt state prosecutor put a price of 10,000 marks (about GBP850) on his head.
